Playing in Peoria
Residents can visit downtown hotspots or open countryside, listen to heavy metal concerts or Illinois’ Poet Laureate, see a tractor pull or a Balanchine ballet, shop in eclectic second-hand stores or modern shopping venues, visit brew pubs or wineries and more. We are home to museums, galleries, a zoo, a botanical garden and a Civic Center that boasts an arena, a convention center and a theater for the arts. Our thriving music scene includes everything from symphony to hiphop to bluegrass.

Peoria is on the banks of the beautiful Illinois River, where it widens into Peoria Lake. Here you can enjoy art galleries, live music, ethnic festivals, boating, paddlewheel excursions, walking trails and more. And at night, the riverfront comes alive with music, festivals and fairs, and eclectic dining experiences.

Sports fans find professional baseball, hockey and indoor football, and NCAA Division I sports. Outdoor lovers find forests and scenic bluffs, miles of hiking and biking trails, volleyball leagues, Frisbee golf, outstanding public golf courses, boating, fishing and hunting. The Peoria Park District has the largest area devoted to parks—60 square miles—of any city in our state. The 140-acre Bradley Park is in close proximity.

Eclectic Dining
Renaissance Park has one of the most eclectic and culturally diverse collections of restaurants in downstate Illinois—and nearly all of them are within a two-block radius. Choose from Italian and Mexican, Chinese and Indian, Vietnamese and Lebanese. From coffee houses to sub shops, fast food to gourmet, Renaissance Park offers it all.

Education & Learning
The residents of Renaissance Park value education—not just the formal education provided by Peoria’s public and private schools and universities, but the learning that comes from interacting with neighbors and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Renaissance Park is home to three of the finest primary schools in Peoria. Whittier Primary School is one of only 10 in the state to be named an “Illinois Spotlight School.” And Franklin Edison Primary School, located in the heart of Renaissance Park, earned the “Those Who Excel” award from the Illinois State Board of Education. Residents can also choose St. Mark’s Catholic School, an excellent K-8 school that has been educating children in this area since 1897.

Bradley University and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, along with the nursing schools at both OSF Saint Francis and Methodist medical centers, provide excellent options for higher education. Beyond formal enrollment, however, Bradley offers an exciting mix of learning opportunities through its Continuing Education Program. Each year, Bradley delivers over 100 educational programs to more than 3,500 people, ranging from youth to senior citizens. Renaissance Park residents are within walking distance to all of these schools—making it easy for them to take advantage of a range of informal learning opportunities like guest lectures, forums or student presentations.
